The people signing the petition had no authority over target. If target didn't comply, so what? They'd be unhappy and maybe buy their groceries somewhere else for a little bit. Target has a huge customer base, and the petition base is not a significant part of that.
Let me get this straight. You think people need to be very very careful about how we criticize media, lest the government hear something we say and jump at the chance to use it as an excuse to start censoring everything?! That is not a reasonable concern IMO.

And even if IT DID happen, the fault would lie 100% with the government, and 0% with the critics who said "These values are harmful and we should think critically about them as we engage with this media."
