I would assume CM’s core belief (beyond being mad that he isn’t a gatekeeper any longer) is that game sites are mainly an extension of a publisher’s marketing

Look at Jim Sterling for example. He giveshonest reviews but got so tired of the shitstorm that comes w/ doing things like *gasp* giving BotW 7/10 that he stopped doing traditional reviews w/ scores. Many of those that remain are afraid giving bad scores may cost them their jobs

In other words, giving a high "consensus" score keeps publishers happy, keeps the readers happy, and means that you don't need to fear for your job.
