This is all well and good but video game companies seem to understand the industry better than most hard core gamers like yourself. Most people get a grand total of 10 hours a week to play video games IF they are lucky. They are not interested in a complex story.
I'm sorry but I'm having a really hard time following the point you're trying to make. It seems to me you're saying that overall, ppl are somewhat less interested in innovation? OK, so what? That doesn't mean games shouldn't be innovative, or that innovative games never do well.

Ugh I can’t make counter arguments on twitter. I’m trying to say it isn’t the developers that prevent innovation. It is us the consumer. I will admit I would kill for a good modern turn based rpg right about now. They are hard to find anymore.

But innovation is happening. I talk about that in the piece I wrote that you're responding to. Maybe it's not exactly the kind of innovation that interests you, and that's fine, but it interests many of us.
