Far Cry 5's writing is something. Right now, I'm intrigued by the way it avoids explicitly Christian terms; I have heard God mentioned a few times, but I don't think I've heard the word "Jesus."

It's drawing lines between "cult" and "religion" wherever it can.

I don't mean this negatively at this stage. It's more of an analytical thing for me. It's the least subtle game in the series, I'd venture to say. There is no chance of story immersion here, not for me, so the entertainment is in the analysis.

I am still thinking of the line "Relax, sheriff. Your name's gonna be in the paper." I mean, he's a sheriff, right? His name is in the papers already, probably all the time, right? Is getting named in a paper something special out there?

Is the line meant more to point out the small-mindedness of the fed, like he thinks the sheriff will be more motivated if he mentions being in the paper? Am I thinking too much about it? (Yes, surely.)

IMO we’re meant to think the fed is kind of a clueless arrogant asshole who condescends to the “local yokels” and has no idea what he’s getting himself/all of them into.

That's how I took it, but it's so early in the game, and the themes are so lackadaisical, that it is hard to tell sometimes.

Oh I mean yeah. I’m not very far in either but I hardly think so far that it is a thematically bold or coherent game.
