This is not at all a defense of the novel. I'm just curious to see how much the film replaces the older, sometimes more obscure geek totems with ones more viewers will recognize / feel nostalgic affection for.

The point of the 70's & 80's references in the book was that the guy who made the Easter Eggs was autistic and all of them were references to his childhood & teens... >_<

I forgot that part -- so yeah, Iron Giant poster doesn't fit either for that reason. And yeah, I fully expect there to be a LOT of iconic replacement -- if for no other reason than the price/difficulty in getting the rights.
