agreed! Also - "you are loved" Not always true. Saying these things only reinforces that people think you are broken otherwise.

i understand why people say these things, they just dont know what else to say and admitting a negative truth feels awkward. but it feels pretty patronizing

I think the better thing to say would be "I would like to be there for you" or something.

Agreed. Makes me feel broken. Sometimes I feel better when someone says, “it makes sense that you feel this way. Embrace it. Explore it.”

the problem is equating being alone with loneliness. Being alone in and of itself isn't a bad thing. I'm often alone, but I never feel lonely.

The mind may feel alone, but that’s the time to dig deep into your soul and feel the connection to all things and God. We are all ONE. The mind gets lonely, but a grateful spirit feels the closeness of God always.

I am not religious. I get what you're trying to say, but I think the original post is about the more practical concern of having one's experience be invalidated by empty words/platitudes. When someone tells me "you're not alone" it's never followed by an attempt to connect.
