Already dreading arguing about or even discussing the new PTA movie. It's like a Christopher Nolan-Zack Snyder-Quentin Tarantino quicksand trap. One of those directors people will yell at you for not liking, and for not liking in the RIGHT way. And I like him! I swear to God!

I could not agree more. I’m curious, why do you think certain filmmakers, like the ones you named, are able to cultivate such invisibility against any real negative criticism?

Gut reaction: it's a guy thing. I don't know what I mean by that exactly, but there are certain filmmakers that make guys of all classes and ages circle the wagons.

Sometimes with Nolan and Snyder in particular I see the same rigid thinking and rage at dissenting opinions that I see in regressive video game circles; the notion that their films are, in some sense, "objectively good" because of production values, craft/style, etc.
