It bothers me a little when gaming sites review films like Justice League but not, say, films like Call Me by Your Name, because there's a self-perpetuating cultural judgment there about what "gamers" are (and aren't) into.

And yes ofc I know that if BIG GAMING SITE reviewed CMbYN or Three Billboards or w/e readers would respond with "lol wtf is this gay shit doing here?" That's what I want.

I want to further destabilize the notion that gaming is primarily for the sort of person who would feel or think this way. Because acting like it is is a big part of what makes things the way they are.

I see your point, but if you have an audience you kind of have to stick to it. No one wants to commit audience suicide, besides if they want to see reviews of those mvoies they can find pleenty of sites for that, extra besides, maybe nerds just don't have anything relevant to add

IDK. I really think that games media catering SO EXCLUSIVELY to young straight males for so long contributed to GG, etc. I'm not saying abandon that audience; just challenge it and make an effort to broaden it from time to time.

I agree but I don't think that's a good way to do it. It's like teaching someone to fight by hitting them with a baseball bat. They can use diversity in games themselves first to start conversation only to them move to other forms of media.

And most important it has to happen organically, we can never force change… Unfortunately. :/

I think we can certainly make an effort to encourage it.

Things staying as they are isn't "organic" either. There are forces that maintain the status quo. And people's efforts for cultural change and progress throughout history have often had a tremendous impact.

That's true, but who is willing to take the bullet?

The radicals who push for change always become a target, to one degree or another.
