You think creators put so little thought into their stories/characters as that? And if men so much more often "pop into someone's head" when imagining a "hero" character, that itself is clear evidence of sexist ideas in our culture, and in the creators themselves.

The creators aren’t sexist! They simply don’t care about the gender

Again, if they "simply didn't care" about gender, then we'd end up with something much closer to a 50/50 split. That's just simple statistics.

It absolutely isn't. Maybe if there were an equal amount of men and women making games their would be. But the thing is, men typically develop games. And said men project themselves into their game. The legend of Zelda was loosely based on the devs make believe adventures 1/2

There's no question that part of what has to change (and is slowly changing) is letting more women into game development, which has for too long been dominated by men. That will help, and is helping a little already.

That's pure ignorance. Do you have any clue how much sexism, harassment, abuse some women encounter just trying to break into game dev? They have to climb tremendous hurdles that their male colleagues don't.
