The tremendous imbalance is sexist. Among other things, it shows that our default notion of heroes still = men, and it encourages us to keep thinking that way.

It’s not sexist! It’s because, as I stated earlier, that creators have more things to worry about than the gender of their protagonists.

Right but...you're making it sound like it's "easier" or more "normal" to center a man than a woman. Why would that be, if not sexism? If things were equal, wouldn't we just naturally end up with something closer to 50/50?

It isn’t. It’s because the creator doesn’t care and just says “oh I’ll just do a female character because that’s the first thing that popped into my head”

You think creators put so little thought into their stories/characters as that? And if men so much more often "pop into someone's head" when imagining a "hero" character, that itself is clear evidence of sexist ideas in our culture, and in the creators themselves.

The creators aren’t sexist! They simply don’t care about the gender

Again, if they "simply didn't care" about gender, then we'd end up with something much closer to a 50/50 split. That's just simple statistics.

If everyone picks a male character because they don’t care and it won’t change the reviews of a game then that statistic will stay like that. It doesn’t matter what the gender of a protagonists is, as long as they have good morals and have a good personality

That only makes sense if we accept that male is a kind of default, with female as an alternative. Which is a sexist way of looking at things. If creators "didn't care" about gender, then it would be roughly like a 50/50 coin flip. Hopefully with some nonbinary folks in there too.

There is only two genders, and if you honestly believe otherwise, we are done here.

Um. OK. Then we're done here. Bye.
