Things have started getting better in the past few years, which is great. But in the overall scheme of things, yes, we still have a long way to go.
It depends on the game. Tomb Raider sometimes frames Lara in ways that present her as a sex object, but overall HZD and TR are examples of some of the progress made in recent years.

How does Tomb Raider present Lara as an object when the games are all about a female Indiana Jones basically
-
Camera angles that focus on her butt, for instance, in ways that male characters are rarely treated by the camera. https://youtu.be/ujTufg1GvR4

Super Princess Peach is a game with a female protagonist that is still extremely sexist. The early Tomb Raider games in which Lara was 100% a sex object were pretty sexist. So yeah, it depends.

Oh oh oh!!!

Let's not forget Metroid, and Fallout, and Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Mario Kart. Only on of these is new (Dark Souls) the rest have been around since the 90's when gaming started getting really popular. Games staring women have been popular 1/2

Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dark Souls don't have defined female protagonists, they let you create your own, which is entirely different. For games with established protags, ones with men outnumber ones with women tremendously.
