There's been a few more female protagonists in games in the past few years. Not enough, but a few. That's important, and makes games better as a whole.

No, in the same way that having a male protagonist doesn't guarantee that either. But in terms of having fewer deeply sexist representations of women & more decent ones, we're making a tiny bit of progress in the right direction. And that makes games (as a culture) a bit better.
