If BotW "grasp(ed) some of the core ingredients that many Zelda games possess," it would be just another Zelda game!

I'm also not keen on the nostalgia creeping in on this take. "This just doesn't feel like the zeldas I loved."
-
When a lot of those mechanics elicited the same types of feelings I had playing og zelda. It's like, maybe it's more zelda than they realiz?

I kind of feel this epitomises so much about games and to a certain extent games criticism.

We want more of the same thing! Actually this is new and awesome but it's not what I expected so I am incredibly angry for some reason

I feel this is actually reasonable. I don't think this person is mad, just they want to point out where BotW deviates from other Zeldas
-
And it does. A lot. I don't think it's too uncommon of a sentiment that BotW doesn't feel like Zelda circa ~1992- 2011

wait so it's one of the best games they've ever played but because it doesn't feature adequate "Zelda"-ness, it's just ok?

There's no shortage of people who wanted OoT for the umpteenth time. Zelda needed to get fresh. Doesn't make it not Zelda. About the spirit.
