It didn't make sense in this post for me to go into much detail about the tactile feel of the game's hacking/play, which I also really love.
It captures that keyboard cowboy/VI jockey sense of 1337 without turning into, say, Uplink and overwhelming most people
Which I think is perfect for this game's larger concerns. It can have those gameplay elements without being "that kind of game."
Like most of Chung's work it manages to convey the *sense* of the thing with minimal systems to worry about.
So it's frustrating to me to go on the Steam forums and see people want those systems to be exhaustively explored/applied here.
I love games that challenge you to make the best possible use of the tools you're given but not every game needs to be about that.
Wait, is there an awesome game that doesn't do that? (now you're going to list a bunch of games that don't to show me)
I don't think Quadrilateral Cowboy's tools are there so much to challenge you (the player) to really make the most of them...
...so much as they're there to communicate the feeling of skillfully doing the work of Impala Solutions. There's some overlap...
...but as you said, the game is easy. Intentionally so, I think.
I guess I read "challenge" as "force" and Quad does do that. It's easy and intentional!
