It's a culturally constructed inability to just intrinsically see and think of and empathize with women as fellow human beings like oneself.
.@AlexBNewhouse But it reflects a divide here with regard to gender, I think. How men & boys are taught not to actually identify with women.

@AlexBNewhouse I never hear men rely on "What if it were your father/brother" when talking about things that happen to other men.
@AlexBNewhouse They empathize directly. And girls/women learn from an early age to project themselves onto and identify with men thru media.
@AlexBNewhouse But there is still a stigma around the idea of men empathizing directly with women, I think. Because as Levy rightly...
@AlexBNewhouse ...points out, the feminine is insulting, shameful. It is the worst thing a man can be. So men shun even identifying w/women.
