Casting Richard E. Grant as (a) Loki was brilliant. If the MCU had been around in the 80s/90s, he's who I would have wanted to see in the role.

Agreed! I’ve noticed when men embrace in media, it’s usually over something that transcends the characters, like comforting someone over grief or loss. Rarely is it ever just two friends expressing a mutual trust and respect for one another. Damn, I’m tearing up writing this lol

I'd argue that the moment when Marty McFly hugs Doc Brown before going back to 1985 in Back to the Future accomplished both of those things. It's a moment that transcends the characters and an expression of trust & respect.
