All of the motion capture was in English. I don't think the authenticity thing was a marketing plot. I would have agreed with you until I read articles from japanese game devs and players talking about it feel more authentic than even japanese games.
Okay, but they could have done Japanese motion capture. Again, they made a thing out of what they decided to call “Kurosawa mode.” Well, his films were written and shot in Japanese. I mean, this isn’t a big deal to me. But I do think there is a bit of a tension there.
It was pretty clear from the first time we saw GoT that authenticity was never genuinely a goal they strove for. The cinematography is nothing like samurai films of the time, it's basically just marvel filmmaking with some occasioinal side-on shots and optional black/white.
probs cause if they made it actually feel like a film/world of that time, most players would complain that it's too boring. It's fine to not be bound by limitations of the past, but the whole marketing beat of "how authentic it is" was always completely disingenuous.
