Just a reminder, if you @ in an artist in a reply (or, say, a wild-eyed congresswoman), it's an automatic block. I don't care if it's a positive or negative comment, if I want to reach out and have a conversation with someone—which is what tagging is—I'll tag 'em in myself.

I'm honestly confused. What is the problem with tagging someone into a conversation? Genuine question.

A lot of things, depending on the situation. If I’m talking about an artist’s work (for instance), I’m not doing it to score points with them or be noticed or to give them feedback. If I were I would tag them myself. Why would a responder take it upon themselves to do it for me?

Okay. But what if the person reading your post praising someone tags them because they're eager to share your joy? I find it confusing that the motivation would be automatically suspect. & it's all done in public, so if someone searches their name, they'd be able to see it anyway

I don’t care about the motivation, I care about the result. It’s embarrassing to me. It also feels really presumptuous. Again, if I’d wanted them tagged, of course I would have done it myself. And people also do this when what’s being said isn’t “joyous,” but critical of a work.
