That kind of loss is very real. It's where community gathers and people make friends and break bread together. The worst one I experienced was a bakery where people from every walk of life intermingled for over a decade. They shut down and within 6 months it was a yoga studio.

Imagine if Americans were able to do a full lockdown for a couple months like much of the rest of the world. The number of business that had to close permanently like this would have been tiny. Instead the "muh freedoms" crowd has ironically increased closures exponentially

Another day, another reminder that Demolition Man was onto something with its "all restaurants are Taco Bell" vision of the future.

Yeah it just had that perfect comfy neighborhood bar vibe, folks chillin’ and playing Connect Four or whatever.

Oh nooo, it‘s the one close to Cafe Leila right? :( Hope not too many of Berkeleys cozy locations are closing. Is it permanently? :/
-
Yes, that’s the one, and yes, it seems to be permanent unfortunately. The landlord demanded full rent despite the bar not being allowed to reopen and they couldn’t cover it.
