Realized that the other thing I really liked about Doctor Sleep is seeing this character go from rock bottom to a fresh start. He got on a bus, went somewhere new, and with a little help from somebody decent, he made something for himself that mattered. I like the hope of that.

And boy, does Ewan McGregor play it so well. The hollowed out, broken man-child and the healing person finding his value. It’s beautiful to see.

Great movie. I think about this bar scene regularly (not sure if it's only in the directors cut).pic.twitter.com/KgZje1Plhk

The movie is so visually stunning and the characters written so well that it outweighs all the jarring shoe horned feeling connections to the shining it keep throwing in. The director's cut flies by, great emotional journey.

I remember Stephen King describing how the Kubrick film lacked the "warmth" of his writing. And as ghastly as some scenes are in this book, it felt like a warm blanket at times. Such a positive message of humanity's capacity for hope, love, and change.

Recently read the book this past weekend, it was very good. I'm hoping to see the movie eventually, I've got both The Shining and Doctor Sleep on DVD just waiting to be watched.
