Sometimes it feels like the backlash against overly reductive moralistic criticism is bleeding over into a backlash against crit that engages at all with the ways a film (or the film industry) might normalize patriarchy, or white supremacy, or capitalism, or misogyny, etc. (1/2)

Critics who never engage at all with the larger social and cultural impact of the art form they love and write about are, I think, leaving out a very important piece of the puzzle.
