Today was the day I discovered how many of my mutuals despise Knives Out. I don’t understand how that’s possible. It’s like hating pastries.
He said "something to do with," not "the sole cause of it is." It's a tweet, not a deep exploration of these issues. But as someone who has spent a lot of time in gaming culture and observing film YouTube etc., I think gaming culture is a relevant factor in the mix.

Wasn't trying to say that MZS was "blaming it on games" (sorry if I came off as such) There's a fair argument re: games as a whole defining themselves as "challenges to be won" (for better or worse) training audiences to treat movies as "things to win" in a very reductive way

I guess where I find myself confused is how a audiences decided that "winning the movie like it's a game" meant "strip mining incidental flavor text in search of some kind of ground truth while ignoring and/or outright rejecting the actual themes and ideas of the story"
