new life is strange looks promising, protagonist seems rad. i really thought LiS2 came up to the brink of saying something radical and giving us radically beautiful and potent images before retreating into cowardly centrism. i hope this is a braver game.

I remember getting the ending where Sean gets put in prison for a few years, before reuniting with Daniel who gets house arrest and thinking, that's a pretty optimistic outcome compared to what would probably happen irl!

I never saw the end of the game but I got super fed up with how black and white the game felt to me. It seemed like the bad guys were over the top villains. It’s not that I was looking for specific nuance, it just felt exaggerated and unrealistic even for the context.

I didn't have as much of a problem with that because like, those people exist irl and Mexican-Americans have to deal with their crap. Although I did watch a video about how everyone who attacks/helps the brothers was white. 1/2

When the game could've opted to have more Mexican-American characters to show the strength in oppressed communities helping each other out.

I didn't find the bad guys over the top but I thought it was a game that simmered w/revolutionary potential--a Mexican-American kid with wall-smashing power headed for the border--and then the best future it could imagine is that kid w/his milquetoast centrist white grandparents.
