I think part of the reason I find it hard to find people to really connect with is that my idea of what authentic connections and relationships (romantic and otherwise) look like isn't just missing from much of modern cinema, it's missing from much of modern life.

I liked indy films for that, filmed in a bathroom, not an immaculate bathroom set, for example, tile and grout that have been used and cleaned repeatedly over decades.
