I want to reiterate that I really did find Nomadland stunningly beautiful--there were images in this film that took my breath away--and I think Chloe Zhao is immensely talented. I just take significant issue with some of the creative choices made in telling this story.

Hey, if you all have problems with the Nomadland piece, maybe take it up with the site that published it or the person who wrote it. I'm just a poor person who has worked in an Amazon warehouse and who agrees with it. Leave me the fuck alone.

Some people are QTing me and saying this piece (which again I didn’t write) amounts to wanting the film to be something other than what it is. But can’t we challenge the choices it makes in adapting its non-fiction source material, and the impact of what it chooses to leave out?

The quotes really say it all. A cowardly insistence on avoiding 'politics' in a story inherently political. A star that romanticises a specific lifestyle, and drops in for a filmic tour of it.
-
The quotes bring to mind another McDormand movie: Three Billboards - these films seem to be cut from the same cloth.

Loooved it! But yes. Hard agree on that aspect of this otherwise wonderful film that continuously broke me.

I worked in FedEx and even that was brutal as fuck.

Haven't seen it yet but will read this. I'm curious if you've seen anything by the Dardenne brothers? TWO DAYS ONE NIGHT comes to mind as a film about class that shows some of the ugly stuff. I love their work.

Yeah, I liked Two Days One Night, and more recently, Ken Loach's Sorry We Missed You. I also really did find Nomadland stunningly beautiful, and think Chloe Zhao is immensely talented. I just take issue with some of the creative choices made in telling this story.
