Being Christian Online seems to be more of a culturally conservative signifier than actually being what one would think of as a Christian. But I don’t know if this is the way it’s always been, just not always online.

Not "always" but rather a particularly American cultural sickness that's been growing like a tumor for the past century. It has a name: White Christian Nationalism.

I think it's actually about gatekeeping with a lot of them than actual philosophy. Like "I'm one of this special club and you're not."

I mean that's literally what Calvinists believe. That God chose specific people for Heaven before they were even born. So they're the elite few. (But don't worry they aren't prideful about it because they didn't do anything to earn it

They don’t have brains. They’re androids built by Rupert Murdoch. You know, like Sean Hannity.

"...it's the job of the individual and the church to take care of people, not the government's. Even though I personally do very little and my church couldn't make a dent even if they stopped being morally outraged over insignificant things long enough to help."

I've dropped the Christian label because of crap like that. It clearly no longer means what it's supposed to. Dunno what I should call myself at this point, but I am so over being associated with people like that.

Saying "Christian" in their Bio means "My parents made me go to their old church, but I've never actually learned about what Christ taught, because if I had I would be a socialist." More or less.

I think it's simpler to say that they proclaim Christianity because "that's what good people do." Actually acting like a Christian isn't relevant so long as they got the recognition of being good from proclaiming it.
