I read an interview last night that Bob Wells didn’t even know Frances McDormand was an actor during the scene where she talked about her husband dying/later consoled her. It made me really upset. I thought it was good, but I kinda feel like nomadland was poverty porn.

Oh wow. Yeah, I don’t know. I was absolutely awed by its imagery and by many moments but a lot of narrative choices just irk me. If you’re going to tell that story, why not focus on a character who doesn’t have a sister she can turn to for money?

It’s always annoying whenever filmmakers tackle socioeconomic inequality and they just don’t have the fire to have their work unabashedly tell the audience: “THIS IS FUCKED UP AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING!” 1/
