I've only played a tiny bit of Bowser's Fury so far but it does feel like a proof-of-concept by Nintendo. After Odyssey (which I liked aspects of but didn't love as much as a lot of people did), I was left wondering where Mario could go from there. Clearly Nintendo has ideas. https://twitter.com/ryanodonnell/status/1361033907529871362 …
As I said, I've only played a bit of Bowser's Fury thus far myself. It's impressive conceptually and pretty cool to see Mario running around in an open world with shifting weather effects etc. but from what I hear it can be completed in about four hours.

Maybe they’re seeing how people respond? It seems (at least to me), they tend to iterate on gameplay mechanics but rarely innovate or evolve too far from that core mechanic. But 4 hours isn’t a deal breaker as long as it’s a good 4 hrs.
