A beautiful sentiment and certainly an underappreciated value of the medium. I once read something to the effect of “all films are documents of their own creation.”

That's something I really like about JACKIE BROWN. It just oozes Los Angeles in a way that feels less like a hagiography of the place and more like just a tour of a specific place and time, warts and all.

Reminds me of a recent conversation with my dad. He spent time in NYC in the 60s & early 70s & hated it. Hasn't been back since. He was very surprised when I told him Times Square now is a very glitzy shopping area that is much cleaner & safer than back then.

Never saw Taxi Driver outside of the “You lookin at me” clip. It’s a great scene but this 7 minute mood piece really makes me wanna see it now. Love it when a movie takes it time just to suck you into itself, not concern with story advancement and what

I absolute agree. It's how Taxi Driver has remained one of my favorites while others are longer. Films seemed more...lived in.

Watch "Falling down". I didn't live in LA in the 90s but for some reason it really oozes "hot, smoggy, 90s" vibes
