This is why I don’t let my kids watch anything on YT unless I know the creators personally.

We’ve had LOTS of talk w our kid about taking everything she sees on such videos skeptically & applying her critical thinking skills to it all. She’s doing a great job, but it took a lot of pro-action to make sure she internalized the approach. There’s some crazy shit out there.

My personal experience in clinical work tells me that more important than filtering media constantly in a way that feels restrictive it is important to actively take part in your children's media consumption and the discussion of said media.

Being conscious of how the youtube algorithm works and filtering out media that could lead to problematic suggestions is great. But nothing beats giving your child the tools to critically engage with media and be able to filter out the BS by themselves.
