hahahaha yeeeeeeeah (from Pretend It's a City, ep. 4) (She actually says "And that's why you never get a mortgage if you're a writer." I don't know why they change things like this and it bugs me.)pic.twitter.com/EpLwGTwdC5
Finished PIAC. A few deeply unfortunate flashes of transphobia and other things that made me want to say "Oh Fran, you just don't GET it," but I still found it a very pleasurable opportunity to spend time with someone whip smart and wickedly funny who thinks seriously about art.pic.twitter.com/dNTaqYbDIS
Also, unsurprisingly given the combined influence of Scorsese & Lebowitz, love for NYC runs deep in PIAC, with a lot of talk about how the city has changed in recent decades--the bookstores, newsstands, jazz clubs and all-night cab driver-friendly eateries that have been lost.
Yeah, I mean it makes it a little bit easier that I think neither Fran herself nor the series holds her up as someone with whom we must agree about all things. We see Spike Lee push back against her dismissive attitude about sports, for instance.https://twitter.com/AlsikkanTV/status/1348440586190249984?s=20 …
Probably part of why I enjoyed Pretend It's a City so much right now was the vicarious enjoyment of the feeling of hanging out in a bar with a good friend talking for hours about things you really care about. Ha god, I miss that so much.
