Second Colombo has a lot more action, including a money drop involving a plane and a helicopter, and the murderer, played by Lee Grant, is so brilliant and cool, she could be a Bond antagonist.

Yeah, that transition jumped out at me — it’s like something out of a 1970s horror film

Death Lends a Hand has a really nice one of these as well. And the scores are great here as well.

Columbo throws a wrench in the "tv is a writer's medium" claim. For ex, Bochco's script for "Murder by the Book" does not fill 90 minutes (he got better). But Spielberg directed the shit out of the driving scenes.

Funny, I just rewatched 70’s Columbo and I found it hard to appreciate this kind of thing bc I was so distracted by the sexism. Two episodes in he casually mentions how he could never work for a woman.
