very good new video from @Tom_LSOO that uses footage from a number of outstanding films about apocalypse, crisis, and disaster, to explore who human beings really are in times of extraordinary difficulty.https://youtu.be/vT_sKGbP1yY

my favorite moment is the pairing of these images from terrence malick's a hidden life, about a man imprisoned and executed for refusing to serve hitler, with the sentiment that "human beings have a fundamental inner freedom, one that no force on earth can take away."pic.twitter.com/dy8uvGNyfb

if you watch a hidden life, it's truly remarkable how malick conveys the spiritual freedom that franz brings with him into the enclosed spaces of that prison. it becomes a place of transcendence because he transcends it with his commitment to something larger than himself.
