Imagining a game with an internet where your character can actually sit down and hang out a while and that isn't represented as abstract green-line polygons actually sounds pretty revolutionary.

I’m convinced that a good representation would need to be so abstract as to render it a non-starter in a big budget game, much like how Neuromamcer has been deemed nigh unfilmable.

Yeah, that might be true. Still, I thought Android: Netrunner did such a good job of building game mechanics around the concept of hacking corporations with cool software that I can't help but feel there's potential for a video game to do it reasonably well, too.
