Thinking about Terrence Malick's images a lot, even more than usual. No other prominent American director seems to have as deep & authentic a connection to nature. The natural world is mostly pictorial to other directors. So maybe they "do Malick" in lieu of a real connection.

I often see images and films that are inspired by Terrence Malick‘s way of photographing nature. But I rarely see imitative images that capture the Malickian sense that quantifiable energy is coursing through the frame, that some intangible but true phenomenon is being captured.

I'm not a religious person but I feel the spirit in the gentle movement of the camera as it lingers on mountains and blades of grass. It makes me feel connected to something larger and more lasting than myself.
