I'm pretty meh on Ghost of Tsushima, but DOOM Eternal's nomination in particular just feels like a concession to AAA development, like we have to treat such games as if they're noteworthy and deserving of recognition even when they're wholly unremarkable.

Highly subjective indeed. The funny thing is, I thought Doom Eternal was remarkable *because of* its predecessor; 2016 was such an awesome game, and I felt like the additions made to Eternal were the step up that a sequel to 2016 needed to be for it to maintain that standard.
