Personally I get enough bigotry irl, if queer characters were persecuted more/worse then as a queer person I'd probably opt to play as them less. I want escapism too, but this is a game that is explicitly about a fascist crackdown, and appropriately, it acknowledges xenophobia in the narrative. I don't think playing as a queer person in the game needs to make the game harder. I just feel like there's a disconnect...

...at times between a character's queer identity and how they experience the world of the game. Like the gay Albion employee I talk about in my article, if recruiting him to Dedsec involved even a passing mention of how his husband was gonna be deported...

...and some indication that they were persecuted for being gay, rather than no mention of that whatsoever and no indication that his life was in any way complicated by being a gay man working for the fascists, that would have been something.
