Look, I get it. They say you should reach out into the world for support when you’re depressed because we’re wired for connection, but it’s harder to do that when you feel like it’s the world that has routinely wounded and rejected you. I understand. It’s scary as hell.

There’s also (in my experience at least) just a lot of inertia that comes with depression. Even when you know it would ultimately be good for you, even just picking up your phone to text a friend can feel like a monumental effort.
