To me, the most important thing Geller talks about in this video is the vulnerability of a writer, acknowledging those who write about games not as detached observers but from the depths of their own subjectivity.

However I sometimes feel (not re: Geller specifically but these convos in general) that this notion leads us to prioritize writing that ultimately finds something worth praising in a game. I think savage teardowns can be vulnerable and extremely valuable, too.

For instance, Pauline Kael could destroy a movie like no other critic.
