In addition to your excellent points. I'm also concerned about American critics/bloggers attacking the perceived adultification of young girls in another culture when they know so little about other cultures.

It's a possibility yeah. French black women critics talk about the film being a case study of two stereotypes that try to control coming of age afro-descendant girls: the traditionnal housewife and the hypersexualized black teen, in a nuanced and non-judgemental way.

I found this interview with the Director that I feel gives a much better interpretation of what she wanted the movie to be.https://www.cineuropa.org/en/interview/390968 …

They should of at least made the characters 15-17 so they could be played by adults. I understand that could take away from the message but it would at least limit the child involvement. Or the best option, just write a book.

I saw the trailer, I didn’t see anything wrong with it, except the bad voice actors for the English version. So I guess Christian pop girl culture is making a comeback?

Thank you Carolyn. French black women saw and reviewed it, it is good, and not paedophile. Some scenes are disturbing or uncomfortable yes, but that's the point.

I understand completely, sometimes art needs to be uncomfortable to make us confront horrible realities. I hope people give the film a chance.

In third world countries it’s very common to see little girls (and boys) imitating what is seen in the media, which is often over sexualized and normalized. I understand why it would be so upsetting for gringos to see this reality but if it’s truly meant to criticize(...)

Then removing it completely because people saw the premise but didn’t watch it to understand would be harmful
