just read this excellent piece twice, you identified so many of my problems with the game and the frustrations of AAA mechanics - by Santa Barbara I felt (and still feel) the game could say nothing more through the barrel of a gun

I wish the game had paid closer attention to patriarchy and gender. That Joel's violent masculinity is as much product of our time as the zombie era. and of the particular tragedy that Ellie would of course have to re-enact it because she must share joels' game mechanics
