I mentioned the commonality between TLOU 2 and Last Jedi yesterday. One thing I've noticed is that fans tend to have cherished ideas about how characters end up, and get mad when creators don't play to those expectations.

In both of those cases it’s specifically because they feel like the creators should prioritize their expectations as the “true fans” (or as “true gamers” who don’t want any “SJW bullshit”) and who then feel cheated when the creators clearly didn’t prioritize those expectations.

It comes from a very conservative place—wanting things to be like they used to be. Wanting the same old comforts and feeling of being prioritized and centered that this media has typically given them in the past.
