Having a breadth of opinions on a thing is a good thing right? Whether they are classically trained or not, everyone has a right to contribute to the discourse

Sure, but personally I have gotten less out of the perspectives of people who only care about games and modern hit movies and TV shows than out of those with deeper interests and knowledge of the arts.

A lot of people have misinterpreted my tweet but this is exactly what I'm getting at. It's not about *literally* not having seen or read this or that, it's about having curiosity and interest in arts and aesthetics in general, to allow for more complex and informed approaches.

I'm sorry but this just sounds super pretentious. People have a choice to gravitate to writers that represent more closely to their own perspective. Not everyone needs to share the same depth of knowledge and interest. This is just getting dangerously close to gatekeeping.
