LRT: It’s hard for me to articulate how little patience I have with the crowd that is upset in advance by the fact that TLOU2’s narrative clearly wasn’t written by the team asking themselves, “What do we think the fans want? Well, let’s just give them that!”

I honestly have no idea yet whether I will end up loving TLOU2 or hating it. It’s certainly possible that I will hate it, but even if I do, I’ll be glad that it didn’t aim to to play it totally safe.

One of my chief concerns going in is indeed how the game frames violence. That’s part of why I wanted to be clear that I may end up being extremely critical of this game.

That is a perfectly valid position. The consensus of acclaim that too often surrounds releases like TLOU is an ongoing problem with mainstream games crit IMO.
