I have an almost insatiable appetite for a whole ecosystem of gaming criticism that more closely resembles the film criticism of the 1970s than anything games criticism has ever really looked like. But I don't know how we get there, how we even take steps in that direction.

I don’t have time to get into all the very complex things that I think are factors right now. I think part of the problem is the model that’s evolved is essentially one of “Hey, we’re your friends, we’re all fellow gamers, come hang out with us on podcasts, we’ll validate...

...your tastes” etc. and that that’s gone on for so long that it’s limiting, readers of game crit websites would take it as a personal affront if for instance a critic gave Doom Eternal a 3 and the capitalist model of games crit as it exists right now doesn’t support that.
