I have an almost insatiable appetite for a whole ecosystem of gaming criticism that more closely resembles the film criticism of the 1970s than anything games criticism has ever really looked like. But I don't know how we get there, how we even take steps in that direction.

...your tastes” etc. and that that’s gone on for so long that it’s limiting, readers of game crit websites would take it as a personal affront if for instance a critic gave Doom Eternal a 3 and the capitalist model of games crit as it exists right now doesn’t support that.

I try my best to avoid games reviews for that reason, I feel like it's taken a step back. I mean fifteen years or so ago you could pick from a range of game magazines with different outlooks. I'm thinking PC Gamer UK, Edge and the like. It seems a lot more homogenous now.
