Also, “games should only ever be reviewed by people who are already predisposed to like those specific games” is, well, not an approach that does the body of criticism around games any favors, IMO.

I honestly don't know if the floor will ever raise with games discourse. A lot of passionate youngins in this industry and a lot of them get their opinions from sites like this. It feels like fighting against a rip current sometimes.

Then you get the if the game gets a good review it was paid for and if it gets a bad review the reviewer just didn't know how to play the game arguments. I like to read both good and negative reviews of a game. Mainly though I want to know mechanically how the game plays.

Fully agreed, which is part of the reason I liked your review so much. My opinion of that game is so complicated. I can see a lot of good in it. But I also can't divorce it from the corporate climate that created it, the subtext of certain scenes, or the original game.
