Some of the most enriching reviews I've ever read have been negative reviews of films or games I've loved. Why are people so resistant to that nowadays? How do we do away with the limiting notions of what criticism should & shouldn't be that have accrued in the past few decades?

idk, i am an internet person, and as an internet person i only care about scores, and the lower the score of the thing im excited about, the more it is wrong.

I think the widespread use of giving things a rating as a number has massively damaged the way people read criticism. Especially now with sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic that then try to aggregate those reviews.
