My current job lasts until June. I'm still looking for something cool and permanent to do after that. Sometimes people ask me what I want to do. The truth is I don't really know.

I mean, there isn't a clear career path for former game critics who can't support themselves doing that anymore. My skills and experience don't align well with many job listings but I know I'm smart and capable. I'm open to possibility. Help me figure it out.

Also, I have AMAZING “soft skills.” Like, soft skills off the fucking charts. Soft skills the likes of which God has never seen. You want fuckin’ soft skills? I’ve got yer soft skills right here, motherfuckers.

the best part about soft skills is how everyone wants them and they're so difficult to put on a resume so you spend an eternity spinning on the fringes of excellent opportunities like one of those marble dishes at the mall.

I'd add the caveat that not everyone might have soft skills (or at least certain kinds of soft skills), meaning the emphasis on having them in a job setting might tend toward gating out disabled people in practice

too often "soft skills" as an in demand talent means, "never make me uncomfortable or force me to think"

That’s absolutely fair. But as a visibly trans person there’s also a sense in which I’m already always working really hard in an effort to not make employers/potential employers/customers uncomfortable.

something never discussed: so many people have soft skills thanks to trauma hoisted upon them by society at large, so while we've cultivated a valuable talent, we've done so against our will.
