Not to mention that NB folks have existed since the earliest recorded human history. Many cultures have third or 'other' gender gender traditions, and while the term 'non-binary' may not have been used in antiquity, non-binary people still existed, as did all other queer people.
Yeah, I agree with that. Until recently (at least in the west) that was just your own individual personality. It wasn't labled as a gender. It was just who you were. It was outside the realm of gender.
Depends who writes it. Depends what they think the future will/should be like. Depends what political side they are on. Etc. It can be a reflection of the times, but that doesn't mean it has to reflect every single aspect that some people want it to. I get your point, though.
